Similar to my music magazine ideas

My very basic drafts of my music magazine

prezi of initial ideas

Liiar analysis of NME

Liiar analysis of NME magazine.
Language
Front Cover - The masthead is ‘NME’ is in the top left corner like the normal conventional NME magazine but this is unique as it is not in its normal red colour, they have changed the house style with the masthead changing colour as well, they chosen a light blue which may relate to the main image of the magazine. The house style colour scheme is blue, white and black which are very effective colour which work well together to create a happy bright effect. NME magazine dateline is always located with the bar code and price which is normally in the bottom corners of the magazine. The barcode is very small in the corner. I don’t think they really try making the dateline a big thing as it’s a weekly magazine and it’s always updating the readers with new info. NME magazine does not have a selling line, I think this is because the magazine is already very successful and doesn’t need to promote itself even more as its already very well known by a lot of people, also I don’t think it would fit in on their front cover as they just give us lots of cover lines about new bands or interviews etc. The main image is the band ‘THE VACCINES’ and we know this by the main cover line which is covering right across the magazine in this house style blue and we also know this is the band credit. The main cover has a sort of selling line which is ‘BAND OF 2011’ this makes readers very intrigued about the band. The main cover line also relates with the main image the world ‘CLEAN UP!’ the main image is trying to show us the band are in a shower and are all wet and the band member has soap and bubbles on his face, this relates with clean up, the colour blue relates with water so that’s why they have gone for this style I think. NME have about 5 cover lines on the front cover and they are quite spread around they is one located in the top left corner, 3 in the bottom left and one in the middle bottom and they all have the same house style to keep this continuous colour scheme. The colours are BLUE for the main part what the reader’s first look at, BLACK for text which the readers will need to read to get a bit of info on the subject and white for background so it makes the blue and black stand out very well. NME have used a very smart technique for readers to read the main headline which is they have the masthead in the corner then having a path towards the main headline which reads out ‘NME ON THE BUS AND INTO ARENAS WITH THE BAND OF 2011 THE VACCINES’ they have these words going down to the main cover line. NME is the ident of the magazine which is a very well known logo or piece of text. The front cover tells us we get free posters of The Clash, Ramones and Sid Vicious and they include teasing contents along the bottom naming lots of bands and artists which the readers are interested in also its say win NYE gig tickets in one of the cover lines. They don’t have any thumbnail images on NME magazine they just have cover lines which insinuates that they just want you to focus on the main article which is a very big one as again The Vaccines are the BAND OF 2011. The layout is very wild they haven’t really keep to a style expect the colour scheme. There is a little skyline above the masthead about a new album revealed by LIBERTINES. There is no splash on the front cover of NME. They might not include this as the price isn’t really a cheap price nor expensive I just don’t think they want to boast about their price.
The front cover has a very positive accurate presentation.
Contents page – NME contents page masthead and headline says ‘INSIDE THIS WEEK’ where under this they have the dateline. The house style colour scheme is longer on the contents page which on this page they have gone for a newspaper look with black text on a white background.  Every image on the contents page has a caption which is either a quote or some information on the photo. NME don’t have any of these massive stand out exclusive stories they don’t even include the ident anywhere on the page nor anyway intertextuality. The layout is very wild as in normal magazines they would have articles in order by number well NME have gone for an importunacy arrangement as they have lots of articles including thumbnail images but the pages numbers are every on the image, in the centre of the page there is an article which is on page 18 while others to the side of it are on pages like 14, 48, 45.  NME try selling a subscription to the magazine in a puff in the bottom right corner.  The contents page also as a very positive accurate presentation. All articles include a strap line summing up the image. The contents page has a lot of change of font where as the front cover didn’t change their text as they stuck to the house style.

Double page spread – The double page spread has gone back to the front cover house style. The layout is half of the page with images of the bands mostly medium shots, or medium close ups and the other half with all texts. One of the images has a caption. This page there is no headlines, logos, banners anything, this page is an interview of the band. The text lets us find out certain information about the band; it’s like an exclusive interview. It’s all accurate positive text about the bands which will make the reader interested and want to read on. The text is very relevant to the images and the main article which is all connected.

Institution
IPC Media are the institution of the NME Magazine as they’re the company which publishes the magazine, they are known to the media world to be one of the best publishing companies within the UK as they publish over 60 different magazines, and sell over 350 million magazines in a year. IPC Media don’t only focus on publishing magazines, they also focus on publishing different types of text such as, books, newspapers, printing (non-newspaper), trade and technical (specialist magazines) and many more. Also this business has three publishing divisions, mass market women, upmarket women and men. The NME team are the ones which write the articles, complete the design schemes and hold photo-shoots for each of the celebrities being shown in the magazine, before sending the information to the IPC Media for it to be published and ready to be sold in retail.
Ideology - NME aim is to spread information about new bands, artists, albums and song. They go behind the celebrities’ life and let the audience get an insight on their lives. They even include tour dates about these bands and artists which the readers would really like. This magazine gives the readers a really good insights on the vaccines and gives them a lot of information about touring, and been on stage. They want to gain an audience from these targeting people who enjoy these bands. There message is to spread the words of these really amazing bands.
Audience - The target audience for NME are people who are strongly interested in the indie rock genre type of music and finding out information about these bands of this type of music genre, e.g. tour dates, upcoming songs and album releases.  The magazine is strongly going for the 15-24 age group in the demographics scale, which relates to my magazine ideas, as these age groups are more likely to be interested in this type of music and are likely to want to keep updated by buying this magazine week in week out. As the target audience are the casual labourers, unemployed, state pensioners category from the demographics S.E.G chart, they are getting much income, therefore the magazine is the reasonable price of  £2.40.The company won’t really lose readers and buyers as the magazine price isn’t very high.
Representation – NME magazine present a very accurate, positive and stereotypical magazine which relates to its target audience very well. The bands are these indie rock bands which don’t care about how they act; they just want to have a good laugh which NME tries to put towards its audience. Throughout the magazine its full of these stereotypical indie rock n roll dressed artists, which influences the audience.

My Price For My Magazine

My music magazine will cost two pound not too expensive and not to cheap, and it’s also cheaper than the magazine I’m placing myself up against which is NME, they magazine costs 2.20. I will publish my magazine weekly which will keep my audience up-to-date with the latest gossip, upcoming bands and events. I think 2.00 is a reasonable price for a music magazine which will be filled with all the audience’s wants and needs. My target audience would be able to afford my magazine as it’s a very reasonable price. Publishing it weekly would keep the audience interested week in week out. With the price as two pounds I’m going to include free CD’s, posters or even a band t-shirt which will really draw the audience in.

My Target Audience for My Music Magazine.

My target audience for my magazine will be for people interested in the genre of the music the magazine presents, doing this will get people intrigued into buying my magazine and interested in the news it sells. I think my magazine will mostly target sixteen to twenty-six but it could appear to the 15 and below group or even higher than 26. I will target both male and female my magazine will not be sexist. My music magazine will attract all different types of people as they all have different tastes and needs which my magazine will cover. My magazine will cover the A, B, C1, C2, D and E group, my magazine isn’t going to be very formal or informal. I want a very widespread audience to make my magazine very popular and worldwide spread. I want to target people driven by needs, which will hopefully them needing to read my magazine week in week out,All people with different lifestyles can enjoy my magazine as well; it’s going to be friendly to all these people. I will target the outer directed group; This group is filled with ‘belongers, emulators and achievers’. This is meaning they are more like to purchase my magazine as they want to fit in with the crowd. The emulating side of it is they may buy my magazine and want to read and see what their favourite artists and bands are up to and may want to copy them on what they are doing!
It’s more of a social magazine where they need to feel a part of a group in which they are the best.

liiar of brief

Liiar analysis
L - My music magazine will contain which will be short and will stick in the audiences head. It will try having a dominant logo or icon to be noticed when seen. The main image will be full page, and will be an MCU SHOT, so pretty much face and shoulders in the image. The models face must be seen clearly to make eye contact with the viewers and also show some facial expression. My magazine will have a bright colour scheme, with a good continuous house style with two or three colours. I will include thumbnail images, which will move onto other articles in magazine. I will include anchorage in magazine, so my audience will know who the artists are in my magazine. Price & barcode will be on my magazine to give it that professional look and to show the magazine is been sold. The teasing contents will be on front cover so the reader will be really intrigued to read on in my magazine. These will be things such as short snappy titles, with these teasing contents I will use competitions and free gifts to draw an audience. My main image is obviously going to have a main article which will both be related to each other.
I – If I was publishing for another magazine I’d go for NME, Q or XXL. I like their magazine style, how they places thing, there photos etc. I would have something similar to them. I’d have the complete opposite to maybe pacha magazine or DJMAG. The reason why I’m choosing them magazine is because I want my magazine to be the same type of music genre as them magazines also there house styles are what I want mine to look like. I’m going to cover about 2 or 3 genres so I’m hoping to produce a good masthead for my magazine, which will be something to do with music. For my double page spread I will have a large main article, with will either be about a new band, maybe like an interview with the band. It will include pictures, maybe link towards a new song etc.
I - I went to send the message of new music, news and upcoming events. I went to meet the audience’s values, so make them enjoy the magazine. I’m going to send the message that this genre of music is the only genre of music you should listen to, none else. My target audience will be teens and up so like 16-26, so I’m going to go for different types of people; students, working males/females, parents etc. I’m going to keep my music magazine up-to-date always, so readers won’t get disinterested in my magazine and genre of music.
A – The audience for my magazine would be the people interested in the magazines type of music genres and this is how I would attract them into purchasing the magazine, again the age range is like 16 – 26 which will go across all different types of people. These people are all going to have different tastes and concerns so my magazine will cover this, all the different types and doing this will make my magazine more popular and have more of an audience fan base. The Socio-economic groups will be for all the types of people, my magazine isn’t going to be really informal but also not too formal. All people with different lifestyles can enjoy my magazine as well; it’s going to be friendly to all these people.
R – My magazine is going to be very positive and accurate for my audience so they will enjoy it more than instead of reading how something tragic has happened or some celebrities doing drugs again. My magazine is going to send an image to all its readers and send a message to them saying this is good music and all the other genres are not. It’s going to make readers feel more involved with artists learning about their lives. Readers are going to learn every week something new either about a new song, some gossip, or in an interview.

brief

Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style).

My liiar analyse

My Liaar analyse

On my contents page I’ve included a banner headline to draw the audience in to read that certain part straight away. My layout format is a main image in the middle with captions or writing around the main image while I’ve put other smaller images towards the bottom. My masthead is located on the side of magazine as there is text and info at the top which I think goes quite well together. I’ve tried doing 3 short snappy strap lines across the top of my front cover which my intrigue readers to want to read on. My front page and contents page I’ve kept a house style throughout using the same text fonts and keeping to a two or three colour scheme. I’ve included thumbnail images on both of my front cover and contents page to show the life and what goes on at my college. Wyke College would distribute my magazine and the reason why they would distribute it would be because it would promote the college and people of the college would be able to gain information from the magazine. My college magazine purpose is to give out Info to College students may not know about or refresh the student’s memory. My magazine wouldn’t focus on one certain type of audience, it would try being for all of the Wyke College student’s to the college magazine would get a lot more fans and be spread throughout the college more. I would try attracting them with things which all students would be interested in. I would try stick to a certain taste which all stereotypes of people would be interested in so again to widen my fan base of my magazine. The SEG would be for D/E group which is obviously for college students. My magazine representation is very positive and correct, it will send out a positive vibe for the students. I wouldn’t have a stereotypical magazine as I wouldn’t want to be bias to certain people or groups.

Online Version of My Magazine.

I would include my website URL all over my magazine, Id maybe have a radio advert including the website etc.
I’d have billboards with the website URL on it, picture on sides of buses etc.
The Link between the magazine and the website online version as they would both be up-to-date together, the stories you read in the following magazine will be on the website. The website would have certain features like codes in the magazine which you can use on the website to obtain certain features, enter competitions to win great items.
I think people would prefer an online version as not a lot of people like reading books/magazines.
Having an online audience would also draw so many more people in.
Just simply the fact having it online in case someone misses the magazine versions they can find all the info on the website, and include all the contact details.

Website finished&feedback

I asked my brother about it and asked what he thought and he said ' i like the fact I've stuck to a persistent colour scheme its very simple and could have more but still looks helpful for a magazine website.

final contents

My final product was analysed by both Callum Harrison and Jason Skipworth, they both said 'the colours were much clearer then the first attempt, and the borders for the pictures are more eye- catching and make the pictures look well presented. and Jason said 'Its too over crowded with too much writing so the background cant be seen, the colours used could be better too.'

contents draft 2

I asked Jason Skipworth about my 2nd attempt and he said'It is a fairly good set out but there isnt much detail and the writing used could be better.'

contents draft

I asked Callum Harrison about my first attempt and he said' its boring beacuse the writing at the side doesn't stand out and is hard to see, but the pictures are clear and the title is bold and read-able.'

draft 2

I asked Han McConnon what she thought and she said 'it is a very good and artistic magazine front cover, the colour scheme is a bit random and instead of using purple, maybe a different colour would be appropriate well done'

MY FIRST DRAFT AND FEEDBACK

Connor thorpe give me feedback on my first draft he said ' i think jay could make the cover more eye popping by using more stand out colours, he could also include more information on the front page about articles inside the magzine."
